Google Home App: It May Soon Let You Give Limited Access to Your Smart Home Devices

Until now, Google has followed a simple approach to providing access to the users to its Home app. Google followed the ‘all or nothing’ rule, i.e., either to grant full access to someone to the smart home devices or none at all. But, the tech giant is considering its regulations and may soon bring some significant changes to it. It may quickly introduce different tier levels of access. It will enable smart home device users to give restricted access to their devices. If you have ever used the Google Home app, you must know either you will get complete access or no access at all.

Now, Android Police folks have seen a piece of code on Android in the Google Home app. The code is suggesting otherwise regarding giving access to the users. The tech giant is working to provide access to the Home app in varying degrees. For example, you may become able to access only smart devices in your home’s guest bedroom if your family members are staying over that place. According to the reports, the users will need to go to the Settings in the Google Home app and visit the option ‘Household.’ While doing so, the users will see a list of many people in their homes.

Also, the users will get the usual option to invite any other person if they want. When the users click on an individual in the visible list, they will be prompted to the new page showing the level of access given to that individual and the devices the users can control. However, this particular feature has not been rolled out in the Google Home app yet. So, when you click on the option of ‘Access Details,’ you will still see the new page with the message appearing as “Everyone in this home app can see all activity and access all settings and devices that includes even those devices that has been added to the app later.” So, it seems that the tech giant will add this feature in the coming days.

Users who are still unknown about the Google Home app should know that it allows users to do multiple actions in a single command while using the app’s Routine feature. For example, the users can give a voice command to Google Assistant to turn off lights, turn on the AC, and even play their favorite music. Besides, the Google Home app users can even add many new commands by using the option “Enter Command” to the new routine.

It will help them to add many new actions manually to the routine. Also, the users can use the option “Browse popular Actions” to do these things. The option will allow you to pick predefined actions from a list. You will find the option “Browser popular Actions” in the routine settings with the tabs like Custom Responses and Home Control Communication, and many others. Apart from these, the users will find the options under the Home control tab that allow them to adjust the settings of their thermostat, screen, and plugs. In simple terms, the Google Home app allows its users to set up and control Chromecast devices, Google Home, and Google Nest. You can also handle thousands of cameras, lights, speakers, and many other devices compatible with the Google Home app. Also, you can check the latest notifications and reminders.
